NEW STUDENT QUESTIONS
We understand how intimidating trying something completely new can be. Here we have a little guide with frequently asked questions!
QUESTION: Does my child need experience ?
ANSWER: Absolutely not. We love working with students who have never tried martial arts before!
QUESTION: What should they wear?
ANSWER: Before getting their uniform, new students should wear comfortable clothes to run around in. Shorts or long pants and a t-shirt are perfect!
QUESTION: Can parents watch?
ANSWER: Absolutely! We encourage parents to stay and watch.
QUESTION: My child is shy. Is that ok?
ANSWER: Yes, we will make sure your child sticks with a coach and get a semi-private lesson. If they are comfortable joining the class with a coach still with them, that is perfect!
QUESTION: Are classes separated by experience?
ANSWER: Yes, we keep the class learning portion separated by experience levels.
QUESTION: What happens during the first class?
ANSWER: The first class we will introduce the new student to their new friends. We will teach them basic strikes and blocks on a hanging bag or small targets with a coach.
QUESTION: Are there contracts?
ANSWER: No! We do not require contracts, or any fees to sign up or cancel accounts.
QUESTION: How often should my child attend?
ANSWER: We require students to come to at least two classes a week. Students can come to as many classes as they want.
QUESTION: Can my child compete?
ANSWER: Yes absolutely! We have inner-school tournaments they can compete in. If they want to travel and compete, we have a special travel competition team.
QUESTION: Does my child need to do contact sparring immediately?
ANSWER: No. We will ensure both you and your child are comfortable and have the proper equipment for contact before they begin.
QUESTION: My child has never played a sport. Is that ok?
ANSWER: Yes! We would love to be the first group to show them how sports can bring new fun experiences!
QUESTION: Do we need equipment immediately?
ANSWER: No. We do not require students to do full contact until after their first few months. If parents are comfortable with them trying sooner, they are more than welcome to get gear.
QUESTION: What if we miss a weekday class?
ANSWER: We offer Friday's class as a make-up class.
QUESTION: Does my child have to compete?
ANSWER: No. Competition is completely optional. We do encourage inner-school competitions so students can see what they need to work on during class though.
